After a long history of mining under changing political

systems and contexts, under the regime of Mussolini,

the miners started a rebellion against the fascistic

dominance, proclaiming the free republic of miners.

After a few weeks the uprising was brutally turned

down and all involved miners were killed.

This was the end of a still young republic

but it could create the myth of a hero and

self-governement.

After being abandoned the mine turned into an

art area and an art projec, established by L.A.E.

taking up the old thread of myths.
